 JOURNALISM IS NOT A PROFESSION 

Many scholars defined journalism as the process of gathering, verifying and disseminating news and information to the public.

Waiter Cronkite also defined journalism as the act of presenting facts in an interesting and informative way.


However, many scholars classify journalism as a profession whiles others believe it's not, rather it's a Craft.

1. Michael Davis classify journalism as non professional due to the following reasons journalist are not licensed, journalism has no required curriculum through which journalist must pass, journalist can not exclude non- journalist from reporting news,most journalist are not members of  any professional organization, journalist are not independent consultant but employees which makes them lack professional autonomy.

2.According to Angela Phillips journalism is a profession because the rate at which journalist investigate, fact checking and standard of accuracy makes it a profession.

3.Hugo De Burgh also classify journalism as a profession because it is being taught and also journalist must be educated in order to be equipped to make a essential contributions as analyst and brokers of information.

4.Manuel Fernandez Areal classify journalism as a non profession because and stated, "Anybody can have access to information sources as well as transmit-through internet all sorts of messages at an usual speed, and this fact seems to support the idea that no technical training will be needed or not even a specific background will be required.

5.Howard Tumber and Marina Prentoulis classify journalism as a profession because journalist undergo a lengthy period of tertiary training.

6.Thomas Hanitzch and Henrik Ornebring also say journalism is a profession because it uses specialized knowledge, ethical standards and commitment to public.
